Mark Wahlberg is unquestionably one of the last few “movie stars” that can generate interest in a project based on his name alone. After a series of working with auteurs in the 1990s on projects like Boogie Nights and Three Kings, Wahlberg transitioned into becoming one of the biggest action and comedy stars of his generation. While he occasionally does prestige projects like Martin Scorsese’s The Departed (which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor that he arguably should have won), Wahlberg has become a good representative of mainstream cinema. Perhaps someone should have taken him up on his offer to make a sequel to The Departed that would have united him with Brad Pitt and Robert De Niro for an ensemble cast nearly as stacked as its predecessor.
