Southeast Asia has been vastly underrated in the world of entertainment, and while we’re slowly getting more movies from countries like the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand, there is more to be done when it comes to representation from the region. Key directors in the past decade are beginning to make a name for themselves and the countries they represent, like Kamila Andini in Indonesia or Davy Chou, who is French-Cambodian, and the emergence of more support for these creatives is critical in the years to come. But there is something else happening around the world: people are becoming more open-minded when it comes to consuming works of art from other countries.
