Every country has its pioneers in the horror genre, those that first challenged the cultural norms to create frightening material that forever changed the face of cinema. This has led to great success and accolades, such as George Romero's invention of the modern horror genre, to controversy and scrutiny, such as the blasphemous work of Coffin Joe in Brazil. However, the Indian filmmakers known collectively as the Ramsay Brothers have one of the more intriguing rises to prominence, creating wholly unique films inspired by iconic Western horror like A Nightmare on Elm Street.
