There has always been a high level of pageantry in westerns. The cowboys are the noble heroes, the outlaws are the violent criminals, everyone wears their hearts on their sleeves, and the amount of bodies one drops has nothing to do with the content of their character. Also, they almost always depict a lawless time that is also the most beautiful and free. They're fun yet meaningful. But everyone knows fiction is always more desirable than real life.
