Ghostbusters has been lauded since its 1984 release for its perfect marriage of comedy and the supernatural. The film seemed, at first glance, to be a random, zany premise like the ones stars Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray used to write for Saturday Night Live. However, its foundation and original screenplay have much deeper roots for Aykroyd. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, in 1952, Aykroyd comes from a long family lineage of Canadians fascinated with the paranormal. Aykroyd was exposed in his childhood to outr concepts like parapsychology while beginning his career as a comedic performer.
