When dealing with something as fantastical and otherworldly as supernatural horror, sometimes grounding it in something more tangible and human is the best way to put it on the screen. Five years after Pennywise returned to terrorize the gang from Derry in IT Chapter Two, the anti-climactic scares that came from it signal difficulty in reacting to supernatural horror with adult screams instead of children's screams. IT Chapter Two's bloated length, lack of narrative focus, and uninteresting structure all contributed to its disappointing result, but the real issue lies in the movie's inability to mirror the performances of the child actors with their adult counterparts.
