Guillermo del Toro fans have experienced some whiplash since the filmmaker partnered with Netflix on Frankenstein. While it's exciting that del Toro was finally able to make one of his longtime passion projects a reality, Netflix rarely gives its films theatrical releases. The Netflix films that do make it into theaters are typically only there for a couple of weeks, in limited release (fewer theaters, mostly in larger cities), to ensure they qualify for awards nominations. So when Netflix announced that Frankenstein would be given a theatrical release on October 17, fans were thrilled; del Toro's latest, an epic adaptation of the classic Gothic novel starring Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi, deserves to be seen on the big screen. Unfortunately, if you were planning on seeing Frankenstein in theaters this weekend, Netflix isn't making it easy.
