For the first time in over a decade, Warner Bros. is returning to Middle-earth on the big screen with the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum at the end of 2027. Based on the Appendices from J.R.R. Tolkien's original book series, this story highlights a quest bestowed upon Aragorn (then known as Strider) by Gandalf to find Gollum/Smeagol and keep him from revealing the secret of the One Ring to the dark lord Sauron. Along with a handful of newcomers, at least four original stars from the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies will reprise their roles; this includes Andy Serkis, who will pull double duty by playing Gollum and also directing the movie.
