The past two decades have set new benchmarks for box office success. It was a very different landscape in the 2000s, when movies made bank on home video after spending weeks, even months, in theaters. Streaming has completely disrupted that model, and blockbusters have since depended on successful theatrical runs, now more than ever. Two films, released 23 years apart, had strong box office legs but finished with very different approaches. One took its sweet time in theaters while the other sprinted.
