Apple TV officially debuted back in 2019 under the original name Apple TV+, and while we now know that the platform has more than proven its worth with multiple award-winning titles, it still felt like a risk at launch. Unlike some of its peers and predecessors like Netflix, Hulu, or Prime Video, Apple TV was distinctly different in that it wasn't a library full of archival movies and TV shows, as it was instead home to exclusive originals. Especially in 2019, it was hard for many of us to justify the price of a subscription, namely because of how much value virtually every other streamer offered in comparison.
