The horror genre has dominated the box office throughout 2026, thanks to a mixture of established IP and original stories. Obsession and Backroomsbroke financial records, showing just how effective a terrifying film can still be. Other releases like Evil Dead Burn, Hokum, and Faces of Death also did a great job of showing the versatility of the genre by being capable of having great scares and social commentary. Now, the next big horror release of the year is Zach Cregger's Resident Evil, with Austin Abrams as the lead character Bryan, a medical courier.
