Horror movies have always relied heavily on immediacy; be it in the form of a loud jump scare after an intense build-up or in the long-anticipated reveal of a killer who's been terrorizing the main characters. When leaning on the supernatural, ghost sightings or the awakening of ancient monsters establish an effective contemplation of dread, but what about horror movies that never show the monster, picking on the audience's anxiety and leaving it up to the viewer's imagination to picture the creature behind those ghastly acts?
