Director Ridley Scott had every intention of reuniting with Paul Mescal following their successful collaboration on Gladiator II, which debuted to solid reviews and stellar box office. The director mentioned in a few interviews that he wanted Mescal to lead his post-apocalyptic thriller The Dog Stars and the actor also appeared to be on board, but another project began to put the reunion in doubt. The actor had long been rumored to be involved with Sam Mendes' ambitious Beatles biopic and that appears to be true as Mescal has dropped out of the Scott project due to scheduling conflicts, while Jacob Elordi is in early talks to take on Mescal's role.
