Inspired by the 1969 novel of the same name by Italian-American author Mario Puzo, The Godfather trilogy chronicles the highs and lows of the fictional Corleone crime family, whose patriarch, Vito Corleone, rises to become a major figure in the Cosa Nostra. His youngest son, Michael Corleone, later becomes his successor and attempts to expand the empire.
