It's always great to have job security, especially after an unceremonious – and public – firing. CBS unexpectedly axed The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on July 17, 2025. The network also announced plans to end the Late Show franchise after almost 33 years, which debuted on August 30, 1993, with its first host, David Letterman. After nearly 11 years on the air, Stephen Colbert will bow out as the titular longtime host on May 21, 2026. In addition to The Late Show, Colbert is mostly known for his right-wing pundit character from The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, the latter of which he hosted from 2005 to 2014. On The Colbert Report, Colbert parodied political commentators like Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck. Needless to say, his background in comedy has been a cornerstone of his career thus far.
