The success of a horror movie seems to be determined by different metrics than a traditional release. Given that they are usually cheaper to make, the bar for financial success is lower, and even some of the most beloved horror movies of all time were major financial disappointments at their time of release. Some horror movies, though, are such massive spectacles that, regardless of what they cost or how unnerving they might be, their box office haul is just too large to ignore.
