In 2004, future Oscar-winner Anne Hathaway jumped into the world of fantasy through her role as the titular lead in Ella Enchanted, directed by Tommy O'Haver and based on the same-named book by Gail Carson Levine. Ella is visited by a fairy godmother (Vivica A. Fox), who places a spell on her that makes her obey anything she is told to do; she is forced to live with Joanna Lumley's cruel Dame Olga before going on a journey to break the spell, joined by Hugh Dancy's Prince Charmont. Unfortunately, the movie only sits with a 51% Tomatometer score (critics' rating) on Rotten Tomatoes, and it only grossed $27.4 million worldwide against a reported $31 million budget.
