Hollywood has seen its share of indelible performances committed to the screen. But having a sole actor take on the mantle of being a character's conduit makes it easy to forget that it's not only performers who bring a role to life. It involves many people and moving parts: a director's notes on how a line should be delivered, a cinematographer's artful vision, the words a screenwriter puts to paper. And sometimes, the greatest performances can come from people who hardly set foot on a studio stage. Perhaps a perfect example of this can be found in Taxi Driver, which turned 50 this year.
