Late-night host Stephen Colbert is working with his son Peter McGee and original Lord of the Ringstrilogy co-writer Philippa Boyens on writing a new movie: The Lord of the Rings: Shadows of the Past. Most of the movie will be set during the events of The Fellowship of the Ring, the first book in J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved trilogy. Specifically, it'll drill down on six chapters that were left out of Peter Jackson's 2001 film, and that get left out of most Lord of the Rings adaptations: Chapters III (“Three Is Company”) through VIII (“Fog On The Barrow-Downs"). In these chapters, hobbits Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin have left the Shire on Frodo's quest to bring the One Ring to Rivendell, but haven't yet arrived at the town of Bree, where they encounter the ranger Aragorn for the first time. They cut through the Old Forest, where they meet a curious character named Tom Bombadil, who wears yellow boots and sings a lot.
